Trabant Tour

Good bye Capitalism, the Communist era is back!
3 hours

Experience the classical Trabant car - ultimate symbol of Eastern Europe.

A nostalgic sightseeing tour in a real Trabant, the former standard East German family car, combines the joy of driving a Trabi with the real atmosphere of the East. Like an old Hungarian song says: "The flight in a Trabant is a delight".

The Trabant was produced by former East German auto maker VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau from 1957 to 1991. The "people’s car" with its two-stroke engine, famously known for its flimsy fiberglass and cardboard construction has become an icon of the past Communist era and the latest tourist attraction. It was in production without any significant changes for nearly 30 years with 3,096,099 Trabants produced in total.

We are offering a highly unusual tour in a small coughing and spluttering vehicle that is not too comfortable, very loud and very slow and has no extras. Take a ride and get to know Hungary’s capital from a really unique perspective. The sights of Budapest are waiting for you to explore them.

In order to try the Trabant you must have a valid driving licence.

You can do a regular city tour or can choose our nostalgic sightseeing tour.

The relics of the Soviet influence

Hungary - unlike many former Communist bloc nations - did not destroy its Soviet monuments. The Liberation statue on the Citadel remains where the Communists erected it. Other colossal statues in Socialist Realist style were moved to a fascinating open-air Statue Park Museum dedicated exclusively to these relics of Soviet domination.
